What I am going to blog about, is the book the fourth grade are reading, Wonder. The book is about a boy named August who was born with a cleft palate. So now he has to go though a lot of surgeries to try to make fix the cleft palate.
I'm so excited to read your blogs! Does August have any other challenges than a cleft palate? Did you read Via's description of Auggie in the chapter, August Through the Peephole? It was really powerful to picture a child with such a facial difference. I hope you love the rest of the book!
Aisha, I have not read this book yes, but I am also wondering if August faces any other challenges? I can make a text to self connection here because my wife's cousin was born with a cleft palette as well as other physical abnormalities such as Ectrodactyly Ectodermal Dysplasia. He is an amazingly talented musician as well as a kind hearted person.

DeleteIt seems like from the cover of the book that August might "see" himself differently. Can you help me to see inside his thinking with your blog?
ReplyDeleteWhen I read this book it reminded me about the importance of seeing people for who they are on the inside.
ReplyDeleteIs this a true story? Do you think a story like this could happen at your school?
